Senator Leila de Lima shared Saturday her Christmas wish for President Rodrigo Duterte: For the President to wake up on Christmas Day "with full control of his faculties" and order an end to all summary executions in the country.
"I wish for a Christmas miracle where the President orders an end to all summary executions, whether by the police or by the death squads roaming our streets, especially during this season of hope and salvation with the coming of the Saviour to our home and to our families," she added.
"May the Holy Spirit and the Son and the Father also visit President Duterte and his family and bless them with the gift of life and the grace of kindness and compassion to their fellow human beings."
Duterte and De Lima have been at odds since the latter investigated the former Davao mayor's alleged links to the Davao Death Squad.
Duterte has alleged that De Lima's former driver and alleged lover collected money from drug lords detained at the New Bilibid Prison.
The president has also accused De Lima of using drug money to fund her 2016 senatorial campaign.
De Lima has vowed no let-up in the campaign to stop the spate of killings unleashed by the Duterte administration's war on drugs.
More than 6,000 people have been killed as part of Duterte's crackdown, a third by police and the rest still officially under investigation. Duterte says the shootings by police were in self-defense.
