Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre has recommended the removal of two high-ranking immigration officials allegedly involved in a bribery scandal.

“An act of impropriety or the appearance of impropriety on the part of an officer or employee erodes the public’s trust,” Aguirre wrote in his letter, which was addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“The separation of an erring official is made more apparent with the loss of such trust and confidence due to their failure to perform their respective duties beyond reproach.”
Aguirre earlier said he felt “betrayed” by Argosino and Robles’ alleged involvement in a corruption scandal involving Chinese gambling tycoon Jack Lam.
The two, who happen to be Aguirre and Duterte’s fraternity brothers in San Beda College of Law’s Lex Talionis Fraternitas, Inc., were caught on camera receiving paper bags supposedly containing P10 million each at a casino restaurant in Paranaque City last month.
The bags were brought by former policeman Wally Sombrero, a representative of Lam, in exchange for the release of some illegal Chinese employees arrested at Lam’s Fontana Leisure Park and Casino in Pampanga.
